You awake in a carriage traveling to an unknown destination, accompanied by a masked man who wants to train you for a secret quest by playing a card game. But there’s something off about this stranger, and the cards for his game seem to be telling the story of your life up until now…

Out Tuesday on the eshop, Hand of Fate 2 is a Rogue-lite RPG that draws inspiration from tabletop adventure games where the world is conveyed through cards on a playing field, events are narrated by the Dealer himself acting as a kind of Dungeon Master, and decisions are weighed by the player’s available hand and a roll of the dice. It’s only when combat begins that players find themselves thrust into the world represented by the cards, confronting bandits, barbarians, and monsters in a take on Arkham-brawling with counters and dodges that require split-second reaction times. But the game changes and evolves the more it is played, and the Dealer clearly has ulterior motives. You can watch Andrew (@playcritically) play the first hour in the embedded video below.
